In order to have different lives, we need to dig down deep and discover the true reasons why we make the decisions we do, not just the excuses we come up with to cover up our embarrassment.

wow, if you really think about that, we can live a life of full of excuses instead of a life with purpose...
if fear or pain drives you, you live a life of excuses, if mercy, grace, and forgivness drive you, you can experience a life of fullness and purpose. I think more like the kind of life God intends for us.
think it's hard to get to the root of our fear or pain, we spend a lot of time trying to burry things like that because it can be really painful or messy.
But there is freedom on the other side. A freedom of allowing God to heal it, and not being controlled by the thing that allows us to so easily make excuses.
C.S. Lewis once wrote, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains; it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world." [C.S.Lewis, The Problem of Pain (New York: Macmillan Publishing Company, 1962), 93.]
